Guam Air Cargo

Did you know Guam only receives 1 air freighter per week?  Most of the air cargo going to or coming from Guam fly in the cargo area of passenger planes.  This creates a high level of inspection of the freight and limits the size and weight that can move in the air.  Incidentally, Green Country Integrated provides full service Supply Chain Management to Guam, Hawaii and Asia Pacific.

$420 Million for Guam Buildup

Japan’s Lower House included in the 2011 fiscal budget, which begins on April 1, 2011, $420 million for the Guam buildup.  They also included $21 million for facility replacements in Okinawa.


Guam Matters – Guam & CNMI rates

Heads up… please be sure your small package carriers to Guam & CNMI are charging you domestic rates regardless of their “reasons”.  We have noticed that many of the small package carriers or less than load shipments to Guam & CNMI are being sold as “foreign” and therefore have international rates.

FedWIN Avoid Proposal Rejection

GCI Lesson learned:  when presenting a federal proposal for a Mentor Protege it is the opinion of GCI that you should be sure to submit / deliver / mail from the Protege or risk rejection by the federal agency….  we recently experienced this with the FAA.

*DOD needs better census of contractors*

As Congress seeks more information on the Defense Department’s service contracts, the DOD officials have to figure out how to accurately determine the number of private-sector employees doing the work, according to a report released this week.

The defense agencies differ in their approaches to reviewing the work performed by contractors and the extent to which they use the inventories to make workforce decisions, according to the Government Accountability Office.

*Officials put temptation in front of small businesses*

When a company can certify itself as a particular type of business entitled to preferential treatment, it is a temptation that is hard to resist, according to one member of Congress.

“How can we ask the Lord to deliver us from temptation and put this kind of temptation in front of these people?” asked Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (R-Md.), a senior Republican on the House Small Business Committee.

*VA increases verification of veteran-owned businesses*

Veterans Affairs Department officials are in the early stages of verifying that the businesses in the VetBiz.gov database are in fact owned by veterans.

VA announced Jan. 3 that companies identifying themselves as small businesses or veteran-owned businesses must now verify their status to gain priority for some of the department’s set-aside contracts. Officials sent notices in early December to more than 13,000 companies in its database, which are designated as veteran owned. Those companies must provide documents within three months of receiving the agency’s notice to keep the status.
